Isaiah Jackman, Portland State University Intern

Isaiah Jackman is an incoming Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) student at Portland State University (PSU). While he hasn’t yet identified a focus, some planning fields of interest include: community development, land use, transportation, and urban design. Throughout the MURP program, he hopes to continue exploring the topics of equity, community placemaking, inclusive community engagement and dismantling systems of oppression in planning processes. Regardless of the position Isaiah takes after graduation, he aspires to empower and collaborate with community members, specifically the Black, Indigenous, and POC communities.

Isaiah spent this past summer as a Regional Transportation Intern at the Portland Region’s governing body, Metro. There he contributed to the long-range Regional Transportation Plan with a specific emphasis on high capacity transit efforts. He spent 1.5 years at the Urban League of Portland as a Fair Housing Specialist where he empowered Oregon’s Black community members through education of their tenant rights. He facilitated two coalitions with other community based non-profits. Prior to the Urban League, Isaiah spent 9 months as a Property Administrator at a commercial real estate firm, Jones Lang LaSalle, overseeing 200,000 sq ft of Class A office space.

Isaiah holds a Bachelors of Community Development with a minor in Spanish from PSU. He specialized in community engagement, urban planning, and housing/real estate. After his studies, he moved to Barranquilla, Colombia for three months to improve his Spanish fluency and communication skills. In his free time he enjoys traveling to new cities and regions, hanging out with friends amd family, listening to music, and taking his dog on walks. Isaiah is a member of the City of Tigard’s Community Engagement Committee and is actively involved in other regional community based committees.
